Documentary - following dedicated health workers engaged in a final battle to eradicate Guinea worm disease in Africa. For thousands of years the parasite has caused disabling misery, infecting people who drink water contaminated with the worm's larvae. In 1986, there were 3.5 million cases in 20 countries in Africa and Asia. But after a 23 year eradication campaign, the total number of cases dropped to 3,142 at the end of 2009. For nearly three years the film tracks teams of men and women as they fight to wipe out the last Guinea worms. Following the victory against smallpox, Guinea worm will be the next disease in the history of mankind to be eradicated.
