Sure Shot Dombrowski
competes in an arena of bravado and machismo
- he is hockey's toughest pugilist with a
scoring touch. After his comic death, a group
of fans mecca to his hometown of Mundare,
Alberta, for a memorial. Led by sportswriter,
Reg Locker, a number of tales, told on the
bus, flashback to the early, mid and late career of Sure Shot.
Powerful corporate
CEO, Erwin V. Boyd, retells the early stage
of Sure Shot's junior career, first year
as a pro, and subsequent fall from grace.
P.R. Rep, Farley Thorlaksen, recounts Sure
Shot's mid-career comeback, and his participation
in a so-called 'friendly' series against
the Soviets. Cold war politics and 'cold
war' hockey enter the mix as Sure Shot leads
team Canada to victory and meets Russian
superstar Kalin Petropov and helps to smuggle
him out of the Soviet Union at the end of
the tournament.
Joanne Avery, Sure Shot's
ex-wife, and her partner Moose Forget chronicle
the last period of Sure Shot's playing days.
Sure Shot finally reaches the pinnacle of
hockey success, winning the championship,
and 'comes out' of the hockey closet. As
Joanne tells the last of the tale a bus clearing
brawl erupts, and the trip comes to a hockey
fighting end.
